History of John Jay Ice Hockey

Cross River, New York

 

 

In 1999, John Jay launched its varsity ice hockey program. It competes in Section 1, Division 2 of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHAA). 

 

John Jay was the Section 1 champion in 2013, 2018, 2019 and 2021.*  

 

In 2013, 2018 and 2019, John Jay won the NY Regional Championship and advanced to the state's "Frozen Four." John Jay was a NY State Finalist in 2013 and a NY State Semi-Finalist in 2018 and 2019.

 

In 2024, John Jay Ice Hockey merged with Horace Greeley for at least the next two seasons (2024-25 and 2025-26) due to low numbers for both teams. 

 

The Greeley-Jay Ice Hockey Team play its home games at Brewster Ice Arena and compete up a class in Division I (because of the size of the combined schools). 

 

* In 2021, NYSPHAA cancelled the Regional and State championships due to the pandemic.
